Miss Donuts Lemon Grove

Blast from the past. I grew up a few miles from this donut shop. However, years ago it was a Winchell's or Heavenly donuts; I don't recall. But as fate is often kind, this donut shop has survived in a different fashion.

On a recent trip back to my hometown, I was taking a stroll down memory lane, when I saw that donuts were still "the name of the game" at this longstanding location. Curiosity got the better of me. So, I figured, lets see how its has survived. My absolute favorite donut from this location was a chocolate long john, with a whipped cream center. It was to die for. I was sad to see that they didn't have that today, BUT they had a chocolate long john WITH a whipped cream topping. It tasted just the same as the donut of my youth! Incredibly delicious. It was so good, as a matter of fact, that I went out of my way to visit this shop five more times on my trip.

However, just one donut a donut shop does not make. So, I tested another favorite, Orange iced cake donut. That was spectacular as well. I tasted the other cake donuts and they were equally good (however, always had that cream creation I alwyas loved).

Judging by the constant flow of customers in the morning, I would say that this is a popular shop. Just a couple of locations away is a Starbucks as well (if you must have their coffee).

I can only say that this shop was a delight to find still open. The seating is still dated and the coffee is just so-so....but, those donuts. Talk about knocking one out of the park!

Been coming here since I was a kid in the early 2000’s walking to Golden Ave Elementary. The donuts are always fresh, always well stocked and I’ve always had great service from staff. The donuts have gotten slightly smaller, yet more plump over the years, but the taste has NEVER changed. The inside won’t be for everyone, it’s old. As far as I can tell, it hasn’t changed since I was a kid 20 years ago. Nothing wrong with it, in fact I kinda like that cause it brings back a lot of good memories. If you’ve never been here, you won’t be disappointed.
